Megan WimmerDesign Thinking Lead - Global Design
Megan Wimmer is a Design Thinking Lead at GE Healthcare, where she is part of a global team responsible for crafting and facilitating design thinking workshops focused on product, service, and business strategy innovation. Each day, Megan strives to enable breakthrough solutions rooted in empathy by guiding teams to look at problems differently and use the most basic tools and their imaginations to investigate, uncover, and explore solutions they never thought possible. In a few short years, Megan and team have progressed design thinking from a relative unknown within GE Healthcare to a recognized career path and skill set valued throughout the broader General Electric corporation. Prior to her current role, Megan spent 5+ years designing Computed Tomography (CT) scanners. She graduated from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering & Design and secondary field of Rehabilitation Engineering.
Design Thinking is both a mindset and tool that has emerged as the leading methodology for reimagining employee and customer experience through the time-tested process of human-centered design. Beginning with empathy and drawing from an iterative approach, the very heart of Design Thinking engages all stakeholders. This workshop introduces you to the universe of Design Thinking, particularly examining how the mindset can be used both at the project-level and strategic-level to root empathy at the center of all engagement.
Empathy represents the root of all engagement, for employees and for customers. In busy, meeting-driven enterprises, empathy often takes a back seat to initiatives that perhaps exhibit greater ROI at face value. This group takes an anecdotal approach to examining advocacy models and strategies to elevate empathy as a top organizational mindset.
